“Riserva dello Zingaro” is a natural reserve run by the “Azienda Regionale Forestale Demaniale” under Sicily Region government.

The coast of the “Zingaro” is one of the few stretches of the coast of Sicily that is not contaminated by the presence of a coastal road.

The works on the construction of coastal-“Scopello San Vito Lo Capo” road were already started in the 1976. Due to a series of enviromentalist initiatives, culminating in a protest march that took place on 18 May 1980 (lived with a lot of participation by the people), the “Azienda Regionale Forestale Demaniale” under Sicily Region government is committed to expropriate the area of the “Zingaro” because it is recognized of great environmental interest.
