Trapani (Trapani, Sicily), a town situated between two seas, also known as the city of salt and sailing, is a town of 70,547 inhabitants, capital of the homonymous province. The city and its suburbs, however, has more than 100 000 inhabitants because a part of the city, the populous village of Santa Casa, belongs to the town of Erice. Consequently Trapani area is the fifth most populated city in Sicily.

Has developed over time a thriving economic activity linked to the extraction and trade of salt, take advantage of his natural position, projected onto the Mediterranean, and its famous port that once served as a commercial outlet for the most famous Eryx (modern Erice) located on the mountain overlooking Trapani.
